WHAT : PANC's goal for ParkinsonWISE®  is to improve the quality of life for people with Parkinson's, their families an care partners by making meaningful fitness and wellness services available in their neighborhoods. We feel that educating these professionals about PD with programs like ParkinsonWISE® allows the medical and non-medical professional communities to begin building a bridge toward better patient outcomes.
WHO : Non-medical professionals with various exercise and movement background including: personal trainers; massage therapists; yoga, Pilates, tai chi, and dance instructors; Rock Steady Boxing coaches; PWR! certified instructors; swim coaches, etc.
WHY : Exercise and movement are especially effective in delaying the progression of PD symptoms, in reducing the impact of symptoms, and increasing general well-being. The ideal is to have comprehensive and ongoing exercise and movement services available both in the medical setting and in the community at large. The challenge is having educated professionals in the community who are familiar with the multi-faceted issues faced by people with Parkinson's disease and can be effective additions to the patient's total treatment team.

HOW : PANC, partnering with Kaiser Permanente Neuroscience, developed ParkinsonWISE® as an educational symposium for non-medical fitness and wellness experts. After attending a training, these non-medical professionals receive a ParkinsonWISE® certificate of attendance and can bring their expertise to people with Parkinson's.

ParkinsonWISE® trained professionals are listed on our website so that patients, care partners, and medical professionals can easily locate them. They also receive a certificate of attendance, lanyard pin, and easy reference card on the various symptoms of people with Parkinson's and optimal exercises.

WHEN : ParkinsonWISE® are scheduled periodically throughout Northern California.
Please e-mail us by clicking Here  if you are interested in having a presentation in your area.
